Soledad O’Brien knows how to multi-task. She currently serves as the CEO of Starfish Media Group, hosts her own show, Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien, and she’s the co-founder of the PowHERful Foundation, which aims to give financial assistance, mentorship, and support to young women so they can get through college and explore career options.

“We’ve had about 4,500 women come through our summits, we’ve had 33 scholars, I think we’re up to 20 who have graduated, including PhDs and law degrees, which is amazing to me,” she tells ELLE.com over the phone, as she sits in the studio waiting to tape her show. Ahead, O’Brien explains why she started her foundation in the first place, her thoughts on the upcoming midterms, and the suit that’s comfortable enough to wear on an airplane.
