Conversation About College, Women, and Mentorship

For the few of you thinking, “Who is Soledad O’Brien?”, (Where have you been?!), I’ll gladly introduce you! Soledad is an award-winning journalist, speaker, author, and philanthropist. You’ve seen her anchor on MSNBC and CNN, for sure. But, she also hosts the weekly public affairs talk program, Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien, and is the founder/CEO of Starfish Media Group whose purpose is to uncover the most empowering stories happening today.

O’Brien is widely known for her passion for finding the facts. She’s not one to shy away from the tough questions. Her Twitter and Instagram are a testament to that fact. She is outspoken about her political views and the state of the government but one of her largest passions is finding new ways to help others achieve their dreams.

The PowHERful Foundation began as a passion project with O’Brien and her husband, and soon grew into a major support system for young women on their way to college. The PowHERful Foundation mentors college-aged girls to, through and beyond college providing them with personal and financial support to realize their full potential. The yearly summits bring together young women aged 14-23 to sit down with industry experts and interact with professionals of various industries and backgrounds.

On Saturday, December 15, 2018, I had the honor and privilege to sit down with O’Brien at the Atlanta summit, hosted at the Spanx Headquarters, to have an open, honest and inspiring conversation about the day’s summit, her passion for helping others and what we can expect from the PowHERful Foundation in 2019.
